Nostaligenta is a fantasy planet. A place that beckons us and lives in our dreams but we’ve never been there. For Ready In Led Nostaligenta is the image of 80’s era. She hasn’t witnessed the triumphant sound of Giorgio Moroder, the wave of British synth-pop of the new wave, but this era and it’s sound today serve as the main creative guideline for her.
The plot of the song develops around a journey to this mysterious planet. Meanwhile, the artist’s new look is partly inspired by Barbarella. At the climax of Nostaligenta singer repeats two lines “Who can save the Universe? Who takes sex to outer space?”. These phrases were advertising slogans on the posters for the release of Roger Vadim’s movie about the adventures of Barbarella. The Ready In Led’s universe is full of such references and symbols. Welcome to the RIL Galaxy!
Ready in LED has an honest and sincere career. Her musical selection and her good judgment have crossed borders. The productions of this singular artist are a powerful statement, emblematic of her unfettered approach to music. We took the opportunity to interview her.
Hello Ready in Led! Where can we find you right now? How did you start your day?
Hey! I am now at home in Kiev. In December, it is cold here and there is almost no sun. I’m waiting for a vacation in January, have already bought tickets to France. Lately, I’ve started my day with a cup of coffee. And then with another and one. And only after that the day really begins.
What was your first foray into the world of electronic music?
I was four years old. My dad listened to synth-disco on the «Mayak» cassette recorder and I was fascinated looking at the screen with the equalizer. When I was 14 years old, I had a poster with Tiesto in my room and I was sure that I will grow up and we will get married (laughs). So I have a long history of relationship with electronic music. Haha)
When did the idea of starting a project start to take shape? Has it always been something you wanted to do?
The idea for the project came up in the summer of 2020, and in the spring of 2021 I released my first Ready in Led release. Initially, I did not set myself a rigid framework, realizing that I would continue to look for myself in different genres of electronics. The basis is disco. But I’m definitely not an artist who will release three releases a month – the same tracks. Every time I want to try something new.
What artists are you interested in these days?
I really liked the new Duran Duran album – Past Future, on which Erol Alkan worked. This is a successful symbiosis of ideas from the past and modern sound. And their fresh duet with Tove Lo is the perfect pop song. I listen to it on repeat.
How do you manage to combine such disparate genres? How do you manage to give them unity and harmony?
It’s always a tricky search. But you can only find something original if you are not afraid to try bold, unexpected combinations. Sometimes this process is meaningless and everything goes to the trash can. But when it all works out, I can scream with delight right in the studio as a child. This happened with the ending of my new single «Nostaligenta»
How would you define your sound?
This is a European synth-disco in a modern sound with an admixture of many styles and elements.
Can you tell us something about your current or future projects?
My feat with Marcelo Giordani from Marvin & Guy will be released in February 2022. The track is called «Fase». It will appear on Marcelo’s album to be released on vinyl by Franz Scala’s Slow Motion Records. This song has a darker vibe. Mix of synth-pop and electro. And my vocals there sound like Hi-NRG melancholic, if that’s even possible.
