Shunus returns to Art Vibes with the EP «Lost & Found». The UK-born, Cairo-based artist is taking his organic music to the next level. With «Deep Cuts», «Lost & Found» and «Traveler’s Blues», he is fusing Blues and Funk influences with authentic deep electronic rhythms.
We have had the pleasure of speaking with the producer and this has been the result.
Hi there ! Where can we find you right now? How did you start your day?
Hey! I’m currently living in Cario, Luckily it’s a public holiday here today, so been able to havea very chill relaxing morning updating my playlists.
When did the idea of starting a project start to take shape? Has it always been something you wanted to do?
I Started performing as Shunus around 5 years ago, when I started getting more into the nightlife scene in Egypt, I had always been performing in bands and making music in the past, but performing and playing Eletronic music really took over when I saw how it was shaping the music scene in Cario.
How would you define the sound of your latest work? What is the concept behind?
With my EP Lost & Found, I wanted to blend more blues, jazz and funk sounds with the organic house sound. I’m always looking for new ways to mix different founds with organic grooves to try and create interesting and unique dance music.
Why did you decide on that cover design?
The cover was designed by At Galleire, they’ve designed a few of my covers now and they always manage to capture the feeling of my music.
Why the name for this new release?
Based of one of the tracks for the EP, Lost and Found, is to me about the feeling of discovering yourself.
What artists are you interested in these days?
Deerhoof, O/Y, Crussen, Gene on Earth, Taches, Gab Rhome
How do you manage to combine such disparate genres? How do you manage to give them unity and harmony? What do they have in common for you?
I always experiment with different sounds until something fits, it’s throwing 100 ideas at the wall until something sticks.
How would you define your sound?
This is a tough question. I’ll keep it simple; Music to Dance to.
Can you tell us something about your current or future projects?
I’m always working on new music and have releases coming out throughout the year, as well as performing with my other bands.
