Thanks to labels like GEGEN, from Berlin, releasing a powerful 3-part compilation, which highlights the last decade of the newly founded label, showcasing the artists who have been part of these parties. This VA is a pack of 30 tracks from the ride-or-die residents of this project, and whose support has driven the collective from day one.
This release travels through different subgenres and BPM, taking us from classic techno to industrial, from hardcore to breakbeat, from deconstruction to acid, and all accompanied by artists like Ellen Allien, Femanyst, Hypnoskull, Bombardier, Paula Temple, Espectra Negra , Ayako Mori, Ayarcana, Tunnel, Esther Duijn, Cristian Marras, La Fraicheur & Leonard de Leonard, Non Reversible, Lady Maru, Bloody Mary, Mar / us, Years of Denial, SKD, Scalameriy … and what if they have something in Common is that inordinate passion for analog and modular equipment, without ever losing its personality and exquisite taste.
This compilation is a good example of the label’s healthy progress, but above all, of its boundless potential. In addition, this selection maintains a narrative line that shows that his compositions are not nihilistic, but are part of a process in which, thanks to the mastery of his compilers, it is easy to enter. Its rawness is nothing more than the arduous path towards the purification of the spirit. We could almost say that that punk attitude that runs through each song no longer belongs to young people, since maturity can also be their golden age. For this reason, the best of the compilation is not so much what it contains, but what it promises: once the necessary balance has been made, it is known that what has to come from GEGEN in the future will be even better.
The compilation, in the end, makes the listener leave himself, open his mind and light the flame of hope, in a world in which it seems that he has lost all idea of the future. And more, in a situation like the one we live in, an album like this is a breath of fresh air.
