Hello Lewis Laite & PRPL CHLD, how are you?
PRPL: Awesome!
Lewis: I’m great!
Can you walk us through your creative process for your latest release ‘Alive On The Dance Floor’?
PRPL: “ALIVE ON THE DANCE FLOOR” came to me as a melodic idea that got stuck in my head. After laying it down on keyboard, I became inspired to make it into an entire song.
Lewis: PRPL CHLD had sent me the track and I wanted to build on what he had created. My aim was to add more energy. I did this through altering the sound design, tweaking the melody slightly and adding some counter melodies just to give that extra edge. One thing a love doing is playing around with automation to create some cool effects to drive that track.
What inspired you to create this particular track?
PRPL: Even before the keyboard riff was created, I wanted to create a FUTURE RAVE ANTHEM that could be played at any club in the world. That mainly inspired me to come up with the melodies and sound choices.
Lewis: After hearing the idea I imagined it going off at a festival and everyone going crazy but also being moved at the same time. This inspires a lot of my music and ultimately, I think we achieved those emotions with “Alive On The Dance Floor”.
How did the collaboration come about, and how did the process of working together go?
PRPL: Lewis had reached out to me with one of his remixes, and I really loved it. It was then that I realized I wanted to do a collab with him. I could hear how similar we were, but I also noticed how we were also different and could each offer something unique.
Lewis: We had been in contact previously via Instagram DM and both shared a passion for Future Rave. PRPL CHLD then shared this idea for a Future Rave track with me, as soon I listened to it, I heard the potential. I loved the moodiness and the original vocals that PRPL CHLD had recorded himself. We both offered something unique to the collab.
How long did it take you to finish the song from start to finish?
PRPL: It didn’t take long once Lewis had the stems, he knocked the mix out of the park with that one!
Lewis: Once we knew the direction it didn’t take too long, I worked on the mixdown and then from there it was fine tweaking things and swapping a couple of things out to make it hit a little harder.
Can you tell us about any challenges you faced while creating this track?
PRPL: We had a challenge with the lyrics… we decided on “ALIVE ON THE DANCE FLOOR” after re-naming it a few times. The title we chose really captures the energy of the track, and it wasn’t until the track was finished that we came up with the final lyric line. We then went in and added the final vocal.
Lewis: The original name of the track was “Die On The Dance Floor”, but over-time we decided to change it to a more fitting “Alive On The Dance Floor” to match the energy!
How did you decide on the track’s structure and arrangement?
PRPL: I wanted to make a song with an extended breakdown, with a robotic “speech” detailing the Future Rave scene. Other than that, the song arrangement came together fairly quickly, based on the concept – keep it short and sweet.
Lewis: I personally took inspiration from the arrangement of existing Future Rave tracks however it was important to add unique elements to make it stand. As well as Future Rave I listen to a lot of Bigroom Techno, and I wanted to inject some of that energy and chaos into the drop.
What techniques did you use to make this track stand out from your previous releases?
PRPL: Definitely using the VT-3 vocal transformer for original vocals was a game changer. I like the feeling of analog equipment, and the VT-3 let me take a hands-on approach to sculpting the vocal.
Lewis: After the first mixdown of the track I headed to ADE and met up with HEADER who listened to the track and gave me some pointers which I soon worked on when I got home. It was great to learn new things from some of the genre’s leading artists.
How do you feel about the track now that it’s completed and released?
PRPL: Now that ALIVE ON THE DANCE FLOOR is out and growing, it kind of becomes more unique and special every day. I’m hoping it can help contribute to dance floors all over the world!
Lewis: Amazing! This is our first release with Future Rave Music, watching the track grow and receive big support is insane. Hard work pays off.
What do you hope listeners take away from ‘Alive On The Dance Floor’?
PRPL: I want you to feel the same feeling when you heard your favorite song for the first time… energized, optimistic, and life changing.
Lewis: I hope they take away a good time! I want them to feel the energy and give in to getting wild!
