This bio of Sagans has been generated by OpenAI GPT-3 and Codex:
The group known as the Sagans is made up of music artists, graphic designers, and AI researchers who create music and visual effects with the help of AI.
The group was formed in 2022 and consists of members from all over the world. The AI Collective is dedicated to creating new and innovative ways to create music and visual effects, and believes that artificial intelligence is the key to unlocking new creative possibilities, something that is truly unique and expressive.
We have had the pleasure of interviewing them and this has been the result.
Hello! Where can we find you right now? How did you start your day?
Hi, I’m in London right now. A lot of fog today, a bit of rain, that’s perfect to get focused on my tasks.
When did the idea of starting a project like yours begin to form? Has it always been something you wanted to do?
I have done a few projects before this one. I used to compose some electronic tracks with a more distinct “pop” structure, I guess growing up gave me the confidence to try and do exactly what I have in mind without the fear of always belonging to something. Being limited by my own human capacities, I wanted to find a solution to push the artistic boundaries and the AI was the perfect solution to overcome this. Sagans has always been something I wanted to do but I didn’t know that I was able to do it. Working with AI has been a real enlightenment, kind of a superpower that I could slowly control.
How would you define the sound of your latest work?
I’m making electronic music with synthesizers and AI. I guess my sound is mainly electronica because of this, but I’m trying to keep a coherent structure, something easy to follow for the listener.
What artists are you interested in these days?
One of my biggest inspirations is Lorn. He can do something so dark and at the same time so powerful, it makes me sad but it gives me a lot of hope at the same time, this is a unique feeling. Aside from that, I guess there is Caribou, CRi, Photay, Darkside, Thom Yorke, Rival Consoles, …
How do you manage to combine such disparate genres? How do you manage to give them unity and harmony? What do they have in common for you?
I guess the beauty in experimentation is to be able to find ideas out of this world and to be able to make it fit in a more enjoyable format. I guess having a synthesis mentality is the key here to be able to filter what needs to be removed and which experimentation is essential for the track. On “Coherence” we had the pleasure to work with the artist Fhin on the mix and addition production, he has been a great help to finalise the track and bring the last ideas needed to bring a perfect unity and harmony.
Can you tell us something about your current or future projects?
We are already working on the next tracks and the associated videos. We really want to work on something never done before – involving a lot of AI research and a lot of experimentation. On the side we are also working with other music artists on their music videos. We don’t want to be a music project only, we want to create anything for anyone as long as there is a real meaning behind the work.

Can you tell us a bit about your experience? Where are you from and how did you get into music?
Hi, I’m currently based in London. All my music experience comes from the Internet – spending a lot of time on forums, only learning the bases of chords a long time ago. I have what we call a “hacker” mentality, I’m not learning anything specific, I’m only trying all possible solutions to achieve a specific objective. I’m not watching tutorials, I’m always trying and finding help on an online forum to overcome an obstacle. In programming, you get an error at every single step and this mentality has helped me both for AI research and music composition.
How is your sound evolving? What artists and genres do you enjoy mixing right now?
My sound is definitely becoming more and more experimental while always keeping an accessible format, a structure easy to understand. I don’t like when things are becoming too elitist.
How do you feel your music influences or impacts its listeners?
I guess this specific track will have a special impact on the listeners. When someone will watch the music video, this person has to get a human emotion, feeling overwhelmed and overstimulated – questioning the place of the human artist versus the machine. The music composition has been at the service of this specific end goal.
What projects are you working on right now? What can you tell us about your last job?
Can you tell us about your present and future projects?
We are already working on the next tracks and the associated videos. We really want to work on something never done before – involving a lot of AI research and a lot of experimentation. On the side we are also working with other music artists on their music videos. We don’t want to be a music project only, we want to create anything for anyone as long as there is a real meaning behind the work.
We all know that the digital revolution has affected sales, but do you think it has affected creativity?
With Sagans, we are working on a fully digital approach, something that can exist virtually and still resonate. We want to embrace the digital revolution – we see it as an opportunity, not a threat. It has affected the sales of the previous generations but it is not affecting artists who learned how to work digitally. I guess the digital world allows us to offer new formats, where the video can be at the centre of the piece. In our case, video and music co-exist, and the digital revolution is the best medium to support it.
