Jake Beautyman creates music that works in all settings and transcends genres. His openness to a wide range of sound is what has both made him a widely loved favourite, but also someone who operates in his own parallel musical world. We had a chance to talk to him, so enjoy your reading and check out his latest releases.
Hi there ! Where can we find you right now? How did you start your day?
Hey! Right now I’m sitting in the studio. I began my day with a food shop and I’m now about to listen to an idea I started working on late last night.
When did the idea of starting a project start to take shape? Has it always been something you wanted to do?
I honestly dont know what else I would do. Music is like my oxygen
How would you define the sound of your latest work? What is the concept behind?
The latest EP – «Slime Time» has 2 tracks and both are parallel to eachother in my mind. The title track is super energtic and pretty modern sounding, whereas the other side «The Golden Tree» takes a much more laidback approach. You’ve got Tech House, Techno, Acid House & Minimal / Deep Tech amalgamated into one.
What artists are you interested in these days?
I’m really feeling Lubelski… I think his recent album ‘Happy Accidents’ is superrr unique & very well produced! My boy Ollie Drummond is also killin’ it! I’ve recently also stumbled across King Crimson after they somehow slipped my radar!?
How do you manage to combine such disparate genres? How do you manage to give them unity and harmony? What do they have in common for you?
I think for me the common theme running through alot of the tracks I like is tension, groove & a feeling. It’s more the feeling they give off that hits me as oppose to what it is they are doing technically.
How would you define your sound?
I dunno… Heavy, Trippy, Chugging, Stompy?
Can you tell us something about your current or future projects?
This year (2022) is the year of getting onto wax for me. I’ve got alot of Vinyl releases coming up which I’m stoked about!
