Established American party brand RVDIOVCTIVE is back with its second compilation of the year: a 15-track collection featuring exclusive new cuts from artists like Choopsie, Hector Moralez, NAIAD and NEY x MISS MAK.
We have had the pleasure of speaking with James Ellington and this has been the result.
Hi guys, thanks for talking to us. Where can we find you right now? How did you start your day?
Currently in NYC with the RVDIOVCTIVE crew doing a few events. Today I have been resting since we had a party last night that turned into quite the rager. Doing my best to hydrate and get ready for the boat party this coming Saturday with Dusky and other awesome artists!
When did the idea of starting a musical project start to take shape? Has it always been something you wanted to do?
I’ve always enjoyed making music and with that always wanted to put music out. I’m someone who likes experimenting with different project ideas and seeing where they go.
How much time do you get in the studio with your collaborators? Or is it mostly remote working these days?
I’d say most of the collaboration happens remotely these days. Especially with the pandemic it’s been more challenging to schedule things in person. Thankfully with zoom and other remote collaboration tools it’s becoming easier to make tracks with people from any location.
Tell us about your new single. Is this going to be the direction for your sound from now on?
My new single Switch is a track I’ve been very excited about. I do think you can expect to hear more stuff like it from me in the future. The high-energy beat with the vocals that carry a certain attitude is something I plan on exploring more.
Tell us about RVDIOVCTIVE… how did you hook up with the label?
I am one of the founders of RVDIOVCTIVE, and putting out music is something we’ve always talked about doing. My partners and I had been mainly focused on throwing parties but about a year ago our buddy Ben suggested we start a label and one conversation led from one thing to another and here we are!
What other artists are you interested in these days?
I’ve been really excited about all of the artists we’ve been releasing records with on RVDIOVCITVE. There’s so much great talent out there and we’ve been super honored to kick off the releases with so many amazing tunes. A couple folks that stand out are Ian Allen and Choopsie who have both had tracks on both compilations.
Can you tell us anything about your projects for the rest of the year and beyond?
The rest of the year I’ll be mainly focused on wrapping up the next 2 compilations for the label and plan to produce a couple tracks that will hopefully be good enough to make it in. Also have some exciting gigs over the summer and the fall and am looking forward to making plans for the future now that the world is opening back up and shows are happening again.
