From Italy with love for a certain musical oddity: ‘Bubble Gum’. Fascinating teamwork between A-Tweed and Kakofonico. After starting off strong and percussive, the beats go up with Cosman from the Lithuanian coast as he delivers his twangy version of ‘Space Disco’. The third track ‘No Man Around’ is a joint venture between AckerMan from Israel and the trio Funboys from Australia.
The ritual cowbell ceremony is followed by ‘Blew my Mind’, a joyous downtempo anthem from Vienna-based producer Klaus Benedek. The journey continues through Turkey and Mexico, where Fat&Bald and Ludviq celebrate their ‘Age of Madness’ with us. The sixth track is a new alliance between Belly Dance Services boss Nick Hanzo and German-Greek vocalist Geraldine. Together as ‘das molekuel’, their emotional ‘Chasing Game’ will increase your serotonin level.
Molecules keep exploding as you listen to ‘Unity’, a very modern collaboration between Lithuanian sound doctor Bojarchück and Madrid-based Chilean magician Persona RS. After traveling between several continents the trip finally reaches the capital of Austria. Peter Zack’s ‘Cato’ will round out your summer with dreamy elements and dubby vibes.
We have had the pleasure of speaking with Persona RS & Bojarchück.
Persona RS: Hey! I woked up in Berlin! had a nice Pho soup. Now I am seated down at the kitchen in front of my laptop with a good coffee and pipe to do this.
When did the idea of undertaking a project like yours begin to take shape? Has it always been something you wanted to do?
Persona RS:In march Domas asked me for mixing job but we ended doing…8 track in two months? Or so.
Bojarchük: We released our tracks together with Persona RS in a compilation of one label and we started communicating ever since. I sent him a couple of unpolished tracks of mine and he seem to have liked them and agreed to collaborate. I did have an idea to do that and Im very glad he agreed. In the end we have quite a lot of tracks coming out. Just wait for it.
How would you define the sound of your latest works on the label?
Persona RS:I think there are some Kraut, Balcanic, and Psychedelic influences in it.
What can you tell us about the Belly? What has been your selection criteria?
Persona RS:Can you repeat the question please?
Bojarchük: Exotic and different kind of dance vibe. I liked the tracks they released before, my only criteria, quality stuff.
What have been your collaborations? What have you learned from each collaboration? What do you admire most about each one?
Persona RS:I love the hand played unquantized weirdness that Domas brings, free lines that make every track sound super fresh and fun.
What artists are you interested in these days?
Persona RS:Just founded this awesome japanese band called Mariah. You should check their latest album from 83′ you could also check this peruvian shoegaze tapes compilation called Crisálida Sónica.Borjarchük: The list is endless.. Nikita Shurmin, Roe Deers, Anatolian Weapons, Elninodiablo, Kolago Kult just to name a few names in a similar same scene.
How do you manage to combine such disparate genres? How do you manage to give them unity and harmony? What do they have in common for you?
Persona RS: Haha we fill with lotta freestyle stuff then start to clean until you get it.
How would you define your sound?
Persona RS: Hypnotic, percussive, raw.Bojarchük: I would like to reach a point where someone else could define my sound.
Can you tell us something about your current or future projects?
Persona RS: First of all we are looking forward to meet in person and hopefully put down a proper live set.
