Who Music welcome Kolegos for a little chat about their latest record on Berlin Bass Collective, read on to find out more about this artist.
Hi there ! Where can we find you right now? How did you start your day?
Hi! We are now in different places, even countries, Mountak moved back to Vilnius, Lithuania, Genys stayed in Berlin. And today we both started our days at our jobs, Mountak at his new job in Vilnius, Genys at his old job at Bitwig 🙂

When did the idea of starting your latest project start to take shape? How did the record come together?
Pretty much at the beginning of this pandemic we finally got to the studio for a night session that we’ve planned for some time already before. But already on that first night we laid out very good “bones” for our first two tracks and one of them we almost finished right away. It was an extremely fun time and we were really happy with the result. That’s how the sessions started and even during the full lockdown and curfew, we started doing sessions online via video chat 🙂
How would you define the sound of your latest work? What is the concept behind?
Latest tune we started working on is similar stylistically to other tunes, which has a strong taste of the 80s sound: gated-reverb-snare, Italo-disco synths, a bit of boogie, electro funk chords in it and some space-disco sounds. But with a fresh modern mix. Which is pretty much our Kolegos style, one of let’s say three main sound directions.
What artists are you interested in these days?
G: WBEEZA, Gerry Read, Rob Circuit, Gary Gritness, Letherette, Ezéchiel Pailhès, Doja Cat, Travis Scott…
M: Cormac, Man Power, Curses, Spencer Parker, Alinka, nd_baumecker, Massimiliano Pagliara, Roe Deers, Black Feeling, Mario Moretti
What do all your records have in common?
They are Dance Music.
How would you define your sound?
Mostly 4×4, some tunes are a bit broken (electro style), a lot of 80s sound, drum machines, arpeggiated synths, some funk, some disco, also some spices from the 90s, so a lot of old school influence but in a modern sound. House, Electro, Italo-disco, Boogie and a bit of Space-Disco.
Can you tell us something about your current or future projects?
Now we started working remotely, since Mountak moved back to Lithuania, there was a little break, but before that we started (and finished) a lot of tunes, so some of them are still getting finished, we are getting used to a bit different way of working together, but since our name is Kolegos (Colleagues in Lithuanian), we are getting organized pretty well with all kinds of Google Docs, Sheets and video chats 🙂 So now a few more new tunes are in the works. And we started brainstorming about possible live set preparation for the next year. Will that be fully live, semi-live, we will see, but DJ sets are already possible.
