¡Parece que te has mantenido ocupado!
¡Danza!

Hi Tommy, how was the last year for you personally and creatively? Looks like you’ve been keeping busy!
This last year was bittersweet for me. The pandemic had left me in a very melancholic state of mind which at first, was scary. Eventually, I learned how to draw inspiration from the moments of sadness and depression I was feeling. Coupled with the love and encouragement that I constantly received from my family and friends, Requiem D’Amour was born. And here we are today!
What does 2021 have in store for us? Is there something on the way that excites you as much in music as in other fields?
I’m just a fantastic fun guy…and that’s what excites me most in 2021 and years to come. Music will be at the forefront of a new revolutionary movement (as it always has been) and I’m just happy that I get to be a part of it. So look out for some really trippy tracks coming out in 2021! P.S. Read between the lines.
What sounds have you been drawn to forever?
African instruments and sounds are organic, timeless and by far my favourite to use. But I’m much more fascinated and forever trying to understand the power of hypnosis in music. That being said, I’m drawn to any sound whenever it’s used properly as a tool to capture an audience’s subconscious.
What could you tell us about your latest work: ‘Danza De Trompeta’? How was it born? What do you want to express?
‘Danza De Trompeta’ holds a very dear place in my heart. It represents the transitional moment in a night when a strong groovy vibe turns into a wild party vibe. The moment when a raver knows they’re about to enter the point of no return. I live for that moment in a nightclub and I wanted to make a track that pays homage to it.
What hardware and software have you worked with?
One night back in 2003, I was forced to install Final Scratch, the first ever vinyl emulation software, after all my cds and vinyl were stolen from my car. I’ve been using a laptop with Rane’s Serato since then and absolutely love all the features it has. Plus, I use Ableton for production, and can easily LINK both software up during a live set. In studio, my go to is the Novation 49 MKII as far as hardware, and the rest, I’m a bit of a plug-in hoarder. The goal in 2021 is to build a studio with serious gear and a proper sound booth – working with musicians, live instruments, and singers is always the way to go
What advice would you give to those who want to embark on a journey towards music creation?
Passion, discipline and sacrifice:
- Search deep for what drives your passion for music.
- Once you think you’ve found it, stay disciplined and explore every bit of it, always, forever, and ever, and ever.
- Be prepared to sacrifice almost everything to develop the skillset needed to create music.
What does it mean to you to release this single?
After 21 years as a live performance dj, I’m finally headed in the right direction. I now have the chance to tell and share my stories through my own music, and not just through live and recorded dj sets.
What makes you happy?
My passion for music and human connection. aka: Love.
Also, oreo dairy queen blizzards, long showers, popcorn, and napping.
How is the music scene in your country? Do you think there is an approach towards certain types of dance music?
I barely listen to any Canadian dance music radio shows. I guess there’s your answer…
Do you have any final words of wisdom?
Just Danza!
