Esteemed German duo Quarterhead join Cheat Codes for their return to the pitching radar with an explosive collaboration alongside Swedish singer-songwriter KIDDO. Their new track ‘Lucky’ follows directly on Quarterhead’s latest release ‘Eyes On You’, which has already racked up nearly 800,000 Spotify streams, as well as Cheat Codes’ second album HELLRAISERS, Part 2, which features a huge number of well-known acts such as Travis Barker, All Time Low, Bring Me The Horizon, blackbear, Trippie Redd and others. Serving as their first collaborative offering, «Lucky» is now available on all streaming platforms.
We have had the pleasure of talking to Quarterhead and Cheat Codes about their latest release and this has been the result.
Hi there ! Where can we find you right now? How did you start your day?
Quarterhead: We’re in our home base studio in the countryside in central Germany. Today our new single “Lucky” got released and that means a long list of promo work is on the table.
Cheat Codes: We are in Los Angeles! Just had a green juice and played some basketball before we go to the studio!
When did the idea of starting a project start to take shape? Has it always been something you wanted to do?
Quarterhead: We actually started as a band right after we met at middle school. So releasing music was always in our DNA. Forming the music, the project, the attitude is an ongoing process and it took quite some time to arrive at the current stage. We’re really happy about everything comes together right now!
Cheat Codes: We’ve always wanted to make our debut album but between touring and life never had an opportunity to do so – we did a lot of sessions in 2019/2020 and created a ton of music which eventually sparked the idea of making an album… it was a lot of music so we decided to release it in 3 parts.
How would you define the sound of your latest work? What is the concept behind?
Quarterhead: First of all “Lucky” is about this feeling, knowing you’re in charge of your own luck. It’s waiting round the corner and it’s on you to go out and find it. This was the core message and the core energy. Musically we wanted to express the power of the thought using an aggressive, strong beat and the driving piano.
Cheat Codes: Hellraisers 1, 2 and 3 all possess its own unique sound and each part is symbolic of our own unique musical tastes! Part 1 is pop, Part 2 is punk and Part 3 is dance!
What artists are you interested in these days?
Quarterhead: A big change in the music world these days might be that vibes and songs became more important than the artists behind them. There is a shift happening right now. Somebody completely unknown can have a big momentum, which is something we – who started out as songwriters in the first place – really like.
Cheat Codes: We love Bella Poarch, Fletcher, Dopamine, KSI and all the new music coming out!
How do you manage to combine such disparate genres? How do you manage to give them unity and harmony? What do they have in common for you?
Quarterhead: Good question! The answer may lie in the energy levels and emotions of the musical elements. If we look at it in a way how different genres translate the same emotions and energy levels we might realise some parallel lines. That’s the common ground we’re looking for!
Cheat Codes: We love pop music and have recognize that pop possesses no borders or boundaries! It feels natural to create different sounds and work with so many different types of artists
How would you define your sound?
Quarterhead: Tricky one! So the mission is clear: We want people to be moved. In their minds, hearts and body. So dance/house grooves are the basis – but wouldn’t work without all the other influences. And at this point we like to stay open minded.
Cheat Codes: The Cheat Codes sounds has no boundaries – we’ve collaborated in almost every genre from pop, dance, punk to country! We love switching up our sound.
Can you tell us something about your current or future projects?
Cheat Codes: We have a lot more dance music coming in 2022!
