Who Music Magazine continue our series of interviews with Dj Asscar whos latest record effectively blends a rougher House style with a distinct bass-driven vibe that draws you in. We are fans, lets find out a little more.
Hi there ! Where can we find you right now? How did you start your day?
«Hiya! You can find me at home in Berlin. I started my day with a smoothie and watching some YouTube videos.»
When did the idea for your new record take shape?
«I didn’t really have a set idea for this record at first, I had kind of a journey with it. I had a bad case of depression last year in October. I sought some solace and found an old Ableton project from a few years ago with a track I had given up on. I ended up reworking it which then became «DON’T EVEN KNOW YOU», the first track of the EP. I liked the way it turned out and how sassy it was. So I decided to go on that route and made four other tracks that suited it.»
How would you define the sound of your latest work? What is the concept behind it?
«I would say its a mixture between sassy house music, euro dance and a hint of Italo disco. I am a big fan of self-deprecating humor and combining it with my passion of music is basically what I aimed for the concept. I took a lot of inspiration from my misfortunes in life and my dating experiences in Berlin.»
Who is inspiring you most right now?
«I don’t have a specific someone that inspires me right now, I’m inspired by places and genres at the moment. I really love early 2000s RnB and euro dance , which will definitely be a big inspiration for my next project.»
Where would you say your sound sits, firmly in one genre or a mixture?
«Definitely a mixture. I love all sorts of music so I take inspiration from a lot of different genres. Specifically for my recent release, it’s a mixture between house and euro dance with a hint of italodisco!»
How do you see the music scene at the moment?
«I think its an exciting time for music. The fact that its quite accessible for a lot of people to make music at the moment leaves space for a lot of playfulness and experimenting with different genres so the output is more vast but also more interesting.»
Tell us something about your current or future projects?
«My debut EP is out the 29th of July. I’m going to be traveling, escaping the gloomy winter of Berlin and work on my next EP in warmer climates. I already have an idea for it so I’m very excited to get it started.»
