Here is the first LP from Mélopée Records.
For this one, they present an incredible Brazilian artist: Neurotiker.
Marcelo gives the best of himself with 6 original songs between Dark & Cosmic Italo and sometimes EBM.
To complete the package, they bring together artists like: Vhyce, Endrik Schroeder, Back From The Wave, and Brandksi.
4 incredible artists from the Nu Italo scene.
We have had the pleasure of interviewing Neurotiker and this has been the result
What was the first thing that attracted you to the world of electronic music?
Actually, before the boom of electronic music, back in the 80’s, I used to listen to electro and freestyle music of the likes of Tony Butler (aka Pretty Tony), Man Parrish, Arabian Price, the Critters.
Also 80’s new wave and synth pop that still influence my production style.
Do you remember any album or concert that has changed everything?
In addition to 80’s music (I have Man Parish – first LP, Brazilian pressed vinyl from 1983), I guess The Prodigy – Experience (first album) was a turning point to me. They came to Rio in 1997, it was a great show. Laurent Garnier also came to Rio in 97, it was a lesson watching him playing.
Since you got into this professionally, what did you miss the most nationally, internationally and on the contrary, what helped you the most to grow, even to believe in yourself?
I started djing in 1999 and what helped me grow musically was my pursuit of new music and discovering new artists and styles.
How is the music scene living in your city with this murky pandemic situation?
At the moment Rio is beginning to open for events. We had a debate on if we should have parties and events and we had a few mainstream events with mixed reviews about the health issues… so hoping for better days in this regard.
What are your favorite places to hang out in the city?
Well, things have changed a lot from the 90’s and early 2000’s when I used to hang out as I started djing. At that time, my fave places were the nightclubs Dr. Smith and Bunker 94 and parties like Oops, X Demente and Factoria. In the 2000’s nightclubs changed to Fosfobox and Dama de Ferro (Iron Maiden). Today, there are more parties and collectives in the city with a new generation of DJs and producers. I don’t hang out that much anymore, I’ve been more introspective since the pandemic and focusing on making music.
Have you had time to focus on making music, spending time with your family, or planning future projects?
Yes, as I said, I’ve been focusing on making music and spending time with my family as well. We are all kinda freaks for music 24h a day hahahaha
How was your last project born?
During pandemics it was like a reborn for me and I was very inspired. I could finish two music projects. One will be released on Melopée in January and the previous one on Ritmo Fatale. It’s an ongoing project like the launch of my own label OGiO next year made exclusively to help new artists release their music.
What do you want to convey in this work? What is the concept behind?
I want to express my artistic creativity mixing up genres and styles that I like the most.
As for your studio, what is your setup currently made of?
Ableton Live, many plug-INs, Arturia midi controller, Micro Korg and Korg Mono Poly. Actually I had a pretty good set up back in the 2000’s but I sold most of it and went working on other projects (I’m also a photographer).
What’s the one team you’ll never get rid of, no matter what?
Micro Korg and Korg Mono Poly. They are survivors lol
What would you say is the definition of your sound?
A mix of disco, ítalo-disco, new beats, wave, ebm and electro with a futuristic spirit.
What was the last record store you visited and what did you get out there?
There are some good record stores downtown Rio that sell old school vinyls of various genres (from soul, funk, jazz, MPB, bossa nova to rock, synth pop, freestyle etc). Luckily I could find at Only Music a Pretty Tony EP – Fix in the Mix that has a great instrumental mix on the B side. It’s rare!
