INTERVIEW: Pippi Ciez

All Day I Dream of Terrific Toronto is fast approaching and will take place at the historic Fort York venue on July 23:

After 10 years of producing hundreds of iconic day and night dance parties in 40 cities around the world, Lee Burridge and the team at ADID recently launched their first festival (May 12-15) and rejoined their annual tour ADID World Tour (more information below). ). )…

We have had the pleasure of interviewing Pippi Ciez, and this has been the result.

What was the first thing that attracted
you to the world of electronic music?

From a very early age of 7 I was
listening to house music as I am the
youngest of three brothers and
seven grandchildren. My cousin Danny
Technici is a DJ and would play vinyls
in his bedroom and show me how to
move to the rhythm while beat
matching one track into another, I think
it was the start of me falling in love
with a four to the floor beat.

Do you remember any record or
concert that made you see everything
differently?

Yes, certainly ‘Prodigy – Breathe’ 1996 I
was 8 years old. I remember seeing the
music video on TV and it was just a
shock from every angle, the sound, the
look, the images in the video,
everything just really drew me in how
unique and like nothing I had ever seen
or heard before. Me and my brother
Robert would dance like crazy kids
around the living room and Prodigy
would always be a
personal favourite from then on.
For a concert would have to be my
first time at ‘Cova Santa Ibiza’ around 8
years ago for the early days of the
‘WooMoon’ party. I was
already trying to find a more
sophisticated sound as I was creating a
melodic techno sound at the time
under a different alias ‘Walking With
Kings’. I witnessed ‘Nu, Lum &
Behrouz’ play a back to back session
for hours on end and I decided right
then I would create a new alias and
start my journey towards creating a
sound that is now known as Organic &
Afro House.

What is one attribute or habit that has
helped lead to your success today?

Never leave the studio (HAHA)
No I certainly think discipline and
determination are great tools to use
towards any target or goal that you set
yourself. In my case this was literally
living in the studio every second I could
possibly make music I would take
the opportunity to do so. I’m also a
big believer that learning is
a never ending process so I always try
to resource new information from the
best to ever do it wether that be
composition, production, engineering,
performance there will always
be more knowledge to consume and
put to good practice.

When did you first start a career in
music?

I have been writing lyrics and music
since I was 12 years old but my career
did not start until I turned 19. I studied
Music Technology at A Level and after
college I gained my first job as an audio
engineer in a Birmingham based
studio.

What is your local music scene like?
How does it influence your own style?

Living in Birmingham its a very different
scene to the one I am in so in all
honesty I find it very hard
to inspire from the sound here
but I suppose could be a positive as I
wanted to be different. I think my main
inspiration came from living in Ibiza
between 2010 – 2014 going to DC10
Circoloco on a weekly basis amongst
other amazing parties on the island.
When I moved to India in 2016 for 2
years it really stretched my pallet for a
more spiritual, ethnic sound where I
started to explore a much deeper
soundscape.

What are your favourite Clubs to see
your favourite Artists perform?
Wow they’re so many. As I mentioned
above DC10 for Circoloco is always top
of my list and a personal dream to play
there one day. I also love Fabric,
Printworks London, Cova Santa Ibiza,
Scorpios Mykonos, De
Markantine Amsterdam, Sisyphos
Berlin, are all incredible places where I
feel you get to see the Artist play how
they REALLY want to play as the crowd
will always be so open to hearing
something new.

What’s in store for Pippi Ciez in 2022?
Making music, spending time with your
family, planning future projects, or
something else?

For the rest of 2022 I will be working
on finishing a lot of music I have been
touring with this year. I am trying to
best keep reinventing my sound,
keeping it fresh but still not pulling too
far away from what my fans know me
for, so you can definitely expect a lot of
new music to follow.
Family time is very important to me
right now as I will be moving over to
Bali for several months to explore more
of Asia towards the back end of the
year, also to switch off, take some well
needed rest as I feel this is
very important and the key to keeping
the energy high all year round.

Do you have any final words of
wisdom?

Try your best to live in the moment, be
different, keep learning and renewing
yourself with every possible chance,
comparing yourself to another is a
downfall, everyones path is different so
I promise if you keep the faith,
determination and passion behind
everything you do and you do it with
LOVE… the universe will do the rest for
you!!!
Thank you for the opportunity to
answer your questions its truly
appreciated
Peace and Love
