JackWasFaster releases number 12 on the LATIDO label.
Jack Was Faster, born and based in Madrid, has spent the last few years contributing to the effervescent Spanish scene with releases/remixes on Rotten City, Factor City, Latido or Playground. He has played live / dj sets at Sónar, FIB, Brunch, Mad Cool, Paraiso, Mondo or Razzmatazz. His songs have been played and supported by many artists we admire, such as Andrew Weatherall, Massimiliano Pagliara, Curses, Terr, Echonomist or Mugwump, to name a few.
In this new Ep, El Sur, Manu Cachero shows some of his main hallmarks. Thrilling synths, heady and unexpected melodies, and a cosmic, synthetic surround that teleports you to a new dimension. From the detuned, intricate synth lines of the brilliant title track, to the acid rush of «Silver Ships,» ending in the head-spinning, killer bass line of «It Started In Jamaica.»
Along with the three original songs on the EP, two great remixes by the unmistakable Freudenthal are added, and the always forceful Lady, to make The South a magnificent Ep.
The entire album manages to provide introspection, absorbing energy and twilight light, and that closes a record that knows how to turn musical pulp into a refreshing ambrosia juice. The more the record is listened to, the more difficult it is to locate it in a specific geographical location. His music seems to never solidify, to be a flow of sounds and impressions that never seem to remain fixed in place or memory, like a perfume or a quick vision of a body in motion, until it postulates as one of the true future values of tame and lustrous electronics.
The songs that are recorded on this album demonstrate the particular way of understanding the sound of JackWasFaster, located at the opposite end of what is commercial, what works, what works: what he does is, on the contrary, a kind of unstable magma of pulsations and glows, with melodic traces and blurred textures, pursuing a serene, spiritual, almost ascetic expression. All those languages and influences from which he drew dialogue on this record, creating new, different and highly evolved sound organisms.
